Geir Jordet, PhD



Geir Jordet, PhD is currently a professor at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences where he conducts research related to psychology, expert development, stress and football (soccer). In addition, Dr. Jordet provides his services to the Norwegian Football Association and the Norwegian Premier League - his task, to design, launch and develop the Psychology division of the Norwegian Center of Football Excellence – a new multimillion £ initiative aimed at bringing Norway back to international tournaments such as the World Cup and the European Championship.

Geir Jordet also works as a sports psychology consultant to a variety of athletes at the Olympic and professional levels in a range of sports including (but not limited to) swimming, skiing, track and field, dancing, equestrian and curling. However, his major sport is football. Over the past 15 years, he has consulted for professional football teams and players in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, England, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. For example, between 2005 and 2008, Dr. Jordet worked with various Dutch national teams (most notably the under 20 and under 21 national teams) helping them prepare for the pressure of international tournaments.

Bridging the gap between sport and business, Geir Jordet has applied his research and knowledge on coping with extreme pressure, expertise development, and talent development with elite athletes to top performers in business. In 2005, he co-authored Sporty Business, a book illuminating how to perform at work using methods and principles from elite sport. Sporty Business targets employees of all levels, giving people at various stages in their careers an insight into performance development. Dr. Jordet also works as a consultant for businesses.

Geir Jordet earned a PhD in football psychology with a focus on perceptual expertise in football and he holds a Master's degree in sport psychology.  Dr. Jordet's mother tongue is Norwegian, but he is also fluent in English and he has a good command of Dutch.
